Gaming
in Indiana
Gambling is a big business in the
State of Indiana, generating billions in revenues from commercial casinos, one
horse track and
the state lottery. According to the American Gaming
Association’s 2006 State of the States: The AGA Survey of Casino
Entertainment, Indiana as of December 2005 had ten commercial casinos, of
the riverboat or dockside motif. The state had one horse track. Gross casino gaming revenue was $2.4
billion in 2005 and generated tax revenues of $778 million. The state lottery in the fiscal year
generated $739 million in revenues and provided the state $189 million in
profits (revenues to the state).
Criminal Code:
Indiana
Indiana is one of only a handful of states to
specifically prohibit Internet gambling, as well as social gambling. Players can be prosecuted
for a Class B misdemeanor and operators can be prosecuted for a Class D felony.
